The topic of DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) has become highly controversial. In this book chapter, I draw insights from the reconciliation literature to understand what considerations should be taken to allow members of both majority and minority groups feel socially included. In brief, two traps to avoid are narrowing the minority members' identity to that of a victim (which might be disempowering) and overwhelming the majority members with shame and guilt (which might lead to moral defensiveness).
